LASIK surgery is performed only after each of the eyes has been mapped, and the doctor has made a careful analysis of the health of the eyes, vision correction needed and the laser ablation, required.

In LASIK surgery, the patient is given a mild sedative, and is made to lie down. The doctor, then, positions the eye directly under the laser. The eyelids are kept open, using a kind of a retainer, which has a suction ring that keeps the eye pressurized. This is not uncomfortable, and is used to create the corneal flap. After the ultra-thin flap is created on the surface of the eye, laser energy is applied to reshape the eye. The flap is then replaced to serve as a type of natural bandage.

A computer is used to adjust the laser according to each person’s prescription. As the patient looks at a target light for a short time, the doctor watches the eye through a microscope while the laser sends pulses of light to the cornea. These light pulses reshape the cornea. . LASIK treatment is painless, though some report mild discomforts .The patient is awake through out the surgery schedule. Though one can return home immediately after the surgery, a short rest is recommended.
