Implantation of a Toric Intraocular Lens
An increasing number of people are electing to undergo eye surgery, and the implantation of an intraocular lens for the treatment of cataracts is the most commonly performed eye surgery in the United States. In cataract patients who also suffer from astigmatism, a toric intraocular lens can be used to replace the existing clouded crystalline lens of the eye. The implantation of the toric intraocular lens is performed under local anesthesia at our Laser Eye + Cosmetic Centre. Yonge Eglinton only uses flexible IOLs, which allows the lens to be folded during insertion, thus reducing the size of the incision and eliminating the need for stitches. The entire procedure usually takes about a half hour, with complete recovery taking two to three weeks. During recovery, it is important that patients relax and avoid strenuous activity that may impede the recovery process.
