Improving Your Vision, Restoring Your Independence
KAMRA™ Inlay Toronto
Sooner or later, everyone is faced with presbyopia, or the loss of near vision, to some degree. At TLC Yonge Eglinton Laser Eye Centre, our goal is to restore your eyesight in the safest, most effective way possible. Whether you have needed reading glasses for years, or you only recently noticed a change in your ability to see up close, the KAMRA™ Inlay Procedure at our Toronto eye care center may provide an ideal solution. The KAMRA™ Inlay is an innovative micro-disc that, when placed in your cornea, restores your near vision without compromising your distance vision. This extraordinary technology can dramatically improve both your near vision and your quality of life.
About the KAMRA™ Inlay Procedure
The KAMRA™ Inlay is designed to reduce, and possibly eliminate, your dependency on reading glasses. This breakthrough technology is so advanced that Dr. David Rootman is one of a very small, select group of eye surgeons around the world who have the training and certification necessary to perform the procedure.
What to Expect
The KAMRA™ Inlay is smaller than a contact lens and weighs less than a grain of salt. Studies have shown that patients can’t feel the inlay; the only effect they experience after it has been placed is remarkably improved near vision. The KAMRA™ Inlay is an opaque, round micro-disk with a circular opening in the center. The inlay can be used by itself or in combination with LASIK for patients who wish to restore their visual acuity at all distances. Once in place, the inlay allows only focused light to enter the eye while blocking unfocused light.
The surgeon places the inlay either through a flap created in the surface of the cornea or in a pocket created in the corneal tissue in a process that usually takes no more than 20 minutes.
Implantation through a corneal flap
A femtosecond laser is used to create a hinged flap in the cornea. The surgeon then lifts the flap, places the inlay on top of the cornea, and folds the flap back into place, where it heals without the need for sutures.
Implantation through a corneal pocket
A femtosecond laser is used to create a miniscule pocket in your cornea, and then the KAMRA™ Inlay is gently inserted into the pocket.
Benefits of the KAMRA™ Inlay
Imagine being handed a menu, a receipt, or a pamphlet without having to fumble for your reading glasses. Picture settling down with a good book at night, knowing that you could fall asleep without having to worry about your glasses getting broken. How good would it feel to wake up the next morning and read the newspaper over breakfast without the assistance of traditional eyewear? All of this, and much more, is possible thanks to the KAMRA™ Inlay Procedure.
