Get Comprehensive and Precise Treatment with Wavefront Technology
Laser vision correction has been used to improve the lives of countless people suffering with vision problems. However, traditional LASIK surgery is not the answer to correcting everyone's vision. If you suffer with halos and glare, traditional LASIK cannot address these conditions. Fortunately, Wavefront technology can complement LASIK to make it a more comprehensive treatment than ever before. This sophisticated system creates a detailed map of the eye, and can pinpoint the cause of vision conditions beyond nearsighedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, allowing us to correct these incredibly miniscule and complex irregularities. TLC is proud to offer custom LASIK using Wavefront technology at our practice. To learn how this innovative system can improve your vision, or to find out if you are a candidate for custom LASIK surgery, book an appointment with us today.
What is Wavefront Technology?
During LASIK surgery, a laser is used to reshape the cornea, eliminating irregularities that cause vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism - also known as lower order aberrations. However, higher order aberrations such as halos and glare are caused by more minute and complex irregularities. Traditional LASIK alone cannot detect the corneal irregularities that cause these conditions. However, Wavefront technology allows us to pinpoint the exact cause of these irregularities and correct them effectively.
Wavefront's diagnostic technology makes a detailed map of the surface of the eye. The image closely resembles a topographical map. To conduct this analysis, a laser beam is passed through the eye and the distortion that occurs is compared to an eye that refracts light properly. Once this information is gathered, a 3-D model of the eye is created using sophisticated digital technology. This data is then transmitted to a computer program that guides the laser in correcting higher order aberrations.
Benefits of Custom LASIK Treatment
Wavefront-guided LASIK's enhanced precision offers many benefits, including:
- Clearer, crisper vision
- Greater chance of achieving 20/20 vision or better
- Improved night vision
- Fewer side effects including glare, double vision, poor contrast sensitivity, and halos
- Improved safety during surgery
- Reduced or eliminated dependency upon corrective eyewear
Although most of our patients are good candidates for custom LASIK, the surgery is not right for everyone. We focus heavily on patient education, and will discuss the benefits and risks of all the treatment options that are available to you. In addition to a range of laser vision correction surgeries, we also offer alternatives like implantable contact lenses (ICLs), which can offer comparable results to refractive surgery.
