Dr. David Rootman, an experienced ophthalmologist in Toronto, Ontario, began his education in the "Queen City" then traveled to New Orleans to gain hands-on experience under the guidance of Dr. Herbert Kaufman.
My medical education started in Toronto. I am a graduate of the University of Toronto in 1982, and I then continued to do my residency at the University of Toronto in various hospitals around the city. While I was a resident, I decided that I wanted to specialize in cornea and external diseases, and I looked for the best position that was available in the United States. I felt that was in New Orleans working with Dr. Herbert Kaufman where I spent two years. One year doing research and the second clinical year dealing in cornea and external disease problems.
