Monovision LASIK

Monovision LASIK, which is also referred to as Laser PresbyVisionTM, is a specialized form of LASIK eye surgery that is designed to treat presbyopia (up‑close reading vision loss). As such, it can reduce or eliminate your dependency on reading glasses.

Monovision LASIK works by correcting each eye for better vision at different distances.

The dominant or better-functioning eye will be corrected to see from far distances, while the non-dominant eye will be treated to see at near distances. In doing so, the procedure results in a post-operative visual outcome that closely resembles bifocals, which are eyeglasses with lenses that have two parts with different focal lengths.

Monovision LASIK, (Laser PresbyVisionTM) can allow patients to see comfortably and clearly at both near and far distances.

Who is a candidate for Monovision LASIK?

Monovision LASIK is a compromise, so it may not be suitable or satisfactory for everyone. In order to achieve better vision through this procedure, it requires the patient sacrifice some of the sharpness in their distance vision. This procedure is designed to improve vision for up-close activities, such as working on a computer or reading a menu. However, it’s not for reading fine print up close or reading for long periods. Similarly, Monovision LASIK isn’t typically recommended for active individuals, such as those who play tennis or golf. It’s also not suitable for people who drive a lot during night conditions.
During your pre-operative consultation, our expert team will evaluate your vision and help you decide whether Monovision LASIK or another laser eye surgery procedure is right for you.

What is the recovery from Monovision LASIK like?

One of the benefits of Monovision LASIK is that the recovery is usually quick. Most patients are back to their regular routines within only 24 hours post-operation. Our team at TLC Laser Eye Centres will provide you with a series of post-operative instructions, which will include an eye drop schedule, to make sure your recovery from Monovision LASIK is as smooth as possible.
